Paula MacNeill from Regina, Saskatchewan, grew up in the grain belt of Canada.  In search of a bigger dream she packed up from her modest and simple, small city roots and enrolled in a ‘FAME’ school in Toronto, Ontario.  At this program she was spotted by an accredited songwriter at a school talent showcase and was approached to co-write and record a song.  Her first single was signed to Quality Records and released to radio (under a stage name) and talks began for a full album release.  Unfortunately, her single was the last one EVER to be signed by Quality Records and her full album a casualty,  as they closed their doors just months later.

Shortly thereafter, a large ocean cruise line snapped her up to add to their lineup.  Paula was put through an unprecedented search and series of hurdles for the perfect “Lola” for the Premier Cast of Copacabana. She was handpicked by Barry Manilow himself for the role.  Copacabana was an extravagant affair.  It included a live performance press release in New York City and a budget unheard of in the cruise line industry.  The Bob Mackie house of designs, famous for dressing Cher, even designed the opulent costumes. (unlike Cher her bum was covered!)

However, the pull of land was calling and she returned to the home land to pursue writing, recording and acting.   This all paid off as she wrote and recorded many songs and appeared in the CBS Movie of the Week, A Holiday Romance and Fox Movie Special, Me and My Shadows.

Paula then had the opportunity to return to her country roots, put on her cowboy boots and join the Country trio LACE.  LACE was produced by David Foster and had several hits. While two of the three original band members had since moved on, there was still a large fan base that wanted to hear their music live.  So Paula joined the group.  They toured across Canada at many festivals and areanas and then had the delight of performing for the troops in Afghanistan.  While enroute to Afghanistan LACE also performed in Abu Dabi, The United Arab Emerites, with stops in Frankfurt, Germany and Zagreb, Croatia.

THEN along came an opportunity she felt she had been preparing for all of her life – the chance to appear as a singer on The Singing Bee.    Paula has shot 30 episodes of the BEE with host Melissa Peterman from the hit TV show Reba and fingers crossed, will be shooting some more in the near future!

While Paula’s professional career was thriving, she never stopped writing and recording her own music.   She has written with many talented writers such as James Michael, lead singer of hit SIXX A.M., producer of Motely Crue’s last album, and writer/producer for artists such as Alanis Morrisette, Hillary Duff, Meatloaf and many others.  Paula penned a song with multi credited writers and musicians Tom Deluca and Mike Slamer called I Will Go On.  That song became the title track of an award winning documantary called Breaking News, Breaking Down.  She’s also written with Billy Pace, writer of Celine Dion’s hit US.
